About the researcher
Kerry Thornhill is an MS student at the University of North Texas and the author of the Necessary Informational Conditions research program. He is pursuing a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies within the Anuradha and Vikas Sinha College of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics.
His research is situated in Information Science and examines how people obtain, interpret, and use evidence when evaluating AI-supported institutional decisions. The program connects conceptual analysis and social epistemology with proposed empirical research on evidence integration and algorithmic contestability. A separate philosophical paper in preparation, What Counts as a Reason: Institutional Formation and the Limits of Rational Reconstruction, examines institutional formation and rational reconstruction through Habermas and informs this research.
His background in real estate, interstate transportation, and organizational information systems informs the questions he brings to research: how records acquire authority, how errors become visible, and how people can investigate a consequential judgment. He is developing a sustained academic research career around these questions.
